Overlays are territories that can derive their quotas from a collection of associated base territories that the overlay supports. A base territory in the territory hierarchy can have any number of subordinate overlay territories as children. However, an overlay territory can only have other overlay territories as children. Overlay quotas do not roll up with base territory quotas. Overlay quota distribution is always top-down, even if the base territory quota distribution is bottom-up. To use overlays, you must first create a set of overlay types and apply color coding to easily distinguish overlay territories in the territory tree.

Click Territory Admin > Overlay Types.  Territory and Quota displays a table with a list of all existing entities and the following options:

Create a new entity.

Copy an entity. To copy a Overlay Type, select the checkbox next to the type you want to copy and then click the Copy button. Territory and Quota creates a new record with the same Description value and the Name value is prefaced with Copy of. You can change the Name value to a unique name.

Upload a spreadsheet to add entity data. You cannot update existing entity information using this feature.

Download a spreadsheet that contains data for all existing entities.

Delete an entity. To delete a Overlay type, select the checkbox next to the target type you want to delete and then click the Delete button.

Click on a record to view and edit details. You can also filter the list of existing Overlay Types by entering a keyword in the Search box, and use the Default Period date as a filter to select which versions to show in List or Tree view. To sort the list, click a heading title.

To create a new Overlay Type:

  1. Click Territory Admin > Overlay Types
  2. Click the Create New button.
  3. Enter a unique Name value.
  4. Enter an optional description.
  5. Select the appropriate color code. Color coding enables you to easily distinguish overlay territories in the territory tree.
  6. Specify Effective Start Date and Effective End Date respectively.
  7. Click Save.
Once overlay types have been defined globally, you can associate them with any territory program. See Overlay Types Tab for details.
