Form Designer

Quick Links

Workflow enables you to configure page layouts for workflow actions and forms using the Form Designer. You can customize how pages appear to end users by adding and removing user interface (UI) components such as buttons, table controllers, sections, tabs, and containers. You can also add custom and standard fields, images, and forms to pages, and you can create and load templates that you can apply to other page layouts.

Access Form Designer

You can access the Form Designer in these various ways throughout the application:

  • Go to Setup > Processes > Workflows and select Edit action from the list. You can then click the Form Designer:
  • Click the Go to Form Designer button in the Basic Settings section on Case Create and View Case action types, and when you edit the custom settings on applicable actions.
  • Go to Setup > Processes > Workflows > Add New and the Form Designer opens on the third step of the wizard.
  • Go to Setup > Fields & Forms and click the Form Designer button on the Actions menu on these pages:
  • Go to Setup > Fields & Forms  and click the Form Designer button on the Actions menu on these pages:
  • Go to Setup > Users > Accounts and click the Custom Fields link.
  • Go to Setup > Users > Contacts and click the Customize Contacts link.

Form Designer Actions Toolbar

Workflow provides an Actions toolbar in the Form Designer that enables you to perform these actions:

  • Reset: Resets the page layout to the last saved configuration.
  • Clear: Clears the page layout of all configurations.
  • Default: Applies the default page layout you define in the Global Action Settings workspace.
  • Bulk Design: Enables you to apply style settings to fields and forms on the page layout. See Bulk Design below for more information.
  • Save as Template: Saves the current page layout as a template that you can later apply to other page layouts.
  • Load Template: Loads an existing saved template. When you execute this action, Workflow opens the Template Manager where you can select a template to load or delete. When you load a template, we replace the existing page layout with the settings from the template.
  • Show System IDs: When enabled, Workflow displays the system ID next to corresponding fields in the Form Designer of that action, and on the Case Details page. When enabled, we change the action name to Hide System IDs. You can refer to these system IDs in your scripts. See Scripts for more information.
  • Edit Action: Returns you to the Action Settings workspace where you can configure the action properties.

Bulk Design

The Bulk Design action on the toolbar enables you to apply bulk style attributes to all labels and values on the current page layout. You can apply the settings to:

  • All fields and forms
  • Only fields
  • Only forms

When you click the Bulk Design action, Workflow opens the Bulk Style Designer:

The image above displays the Bulk Style Designer with collapsed panels. You can click on the Basic, Border Attributes, and Font Attributes links to expand the panels and display the configurable attributes.

See Component Styling for details on the style settings.

Form Designer Component Header Toolbar

When you add a field, form, or UI component to a page layout, we display a header for the element. When you hover over the element, we display a toolbar with different icons, depending on the element. The following is an example of the Section header and toolbar:

The following table identifies the different icons, their functions, and on which element headers they appear:
